Respiratory Protection
The fundamental goal of any respiratory protection program is to control occupational diseases caused by breathing air contaminated with harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, mists, gases, smokes, sprays and vapors. The protection against these is simple, keep them out of the air that you are breathing! Once engineering controls have been implemented, if there is still a hazard, you MUST provide appropriate respiratory protection for any employee who might be exposed.

Alpine Fire and Safety Systems offers respiratory and qualitative fit testing -- on your site, or arrange to come to our state of the art training facility.
What is a Fit Test?
A Respiratory Fit Test means the use of a protocol to qualitatively or quantitatively evaluate the fit of a respirator on an individual. Here at Alpine Fire we use the qualitative method to fit test. What is the difference between the two methods? Qualitative means to use a pass/fail test to assess the adequacy of a fit that relies on the individuals response to outside source, i.e. irritant fume or Bitrex. A quantitative method numerically measures the amount of leakage while an individual is wearing the respirator.
The following is covered in our Respiratory Fit Test:
1/2 hour WISHA introduction:
How to read MSDS sheets
How to store respirator
How to clean respirator
How to inspect respirator
Positive/Negative testing
Qualitative Fit Testing:
(using irritant smoke)
Approx. 10 minutes per person
Upon completion of fit testing the company or business will be issued a document for each worker attending for their personal file as part of the company’s or business’s written safety plan.
